Rosalind Gill_(Canadá)._“Lament for My City as I Go Away / Llanto por la ciudad cuando me alejo”
_
how alone you have been left, dear
mother, with your bones     Eliseo Diego
To Santiago de Cuba
_
What guilt bears a mother
with so much pride, so much distinction on her brow,
that her children must flee in order to grow.
What guilt bears the poor woman of the walls
for those who rise above her corpse
and, leaving, empty her soul.
_
Oh Santiago,
how much love falls from me,
how sadly you come back to me between your high mountains.
How alone you are.
Into what hands have you trusted your agedness,
with what artifices are they covering your face?
How is it possible,  my city,
how is it possible?
This patriotic oblivion in which they have left you.

qué sola te quedaste mi madre,
con tus huesos     Elisio Diego
A Santiago de Cuba
_
A qué manos entregaste tu vejez
con qué artificios te cubren el semblante.
Cómo es posible     ciudad
cómo es posible
este patriótico olvido en que te dejan.
